Presentation Title:

Does a work-family role conflict have a moderating role in the relationship between psychosocial safety climate and presenteeism? From the perspective of work-related and gender-related issues

Abstract

The main aim of this study is to investigate both whether work-family role conflict moderates the relationship between psychosocial safety climate and presenteeism, and how the work-family role conflict moderates this relationship, depending on gender-related and work-related issues (work arrangements and work types). The study used online survey data (n=300) collected from employees residing in Türkiye. Regarding the effects of the relationship between psychosocial safety climate (PSC) and presenteeism, work-family role conflict (WFRC) was analyzed as a moderator, and gender-related and work-related factors (work types and work arrangements) were analyzed as mediating factors. In the light of the findings, it was found that the PSC negatively influences presenteeism, and WFRC has a moderating role in this relationship. In addition, the moderating role of WFRC on presenteeism is higher among women, married women, and women with children than among men, married men, and men with children. Furthermore, a difference in the moderating role of WFRC on presenteeism has been found across different work types and work arrangements. Organizations should take long-term and permanent steps to improve organizational support mechanisms (including PSC) and minimize presenteeism behavior according to different work types, different job types, and gender differences. Also, government and policymakers' efforts to improve policies addressing gender inequality will serve as a guide for businesses to take these steps.
