Assessment of the level of anxiety among nursing students towards university examinations at the University of Buraimi, Sultanate of Oman

Abstract

Background:
The anxiety experienced by nursing students regarding examinations can significantly influence their academic success. Evaluating and addressing these factors is vital for enhancing educational outcomes and overall academic and professional quality.

Aim:
This study aims to evaluate the level of anxiety among nursing students at the University of Buraimi, Sultanate of Oman, concerning university examinations.

Methodology:
A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire distributed through a URL link to university students. The questionnaire collected demographic data such as age, gender, and years of study, while also assessing anxiety levels using Beck's Anxiety Inventory. A quantitative research approach was employed to derive statistically significant conclusions

Results:
A total of 149 students participated in the survey, with 87.9% identifying as female and 12.1% as male. Participants’ ages were between 18 and 25 years, with the largest group (33.6%) being in their fourth year of study. The findings indicated that 50% of the participants reported a mild level of anxiety regarding university examinations. No significant relationship was found between sociodemographic variables and anxiety levels (Gender: p=0.899; Age: p=0.670; Year of study: p=0.467).

Conclusion:
The study underscores the importance of providing support and resources, such as counseling services and workshops on anxiety management, to help students manage exam-related anxiety, thereby fostering improved mental health and academic performance.
