The status que of identification and nurturing the gifted students with learning disabilities: A qualitative study of teachers perspectives
Abstract
The current study aimed to explore the reality of identifying and supporting gifted students with learning difficulties from the perspective of practitioners in general education schools, using a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews. The results revealed that teachers possess broad awareness and positive attitudes, but there are no mandatory procedures for implementing identification tools, and there is a lack of professional training. This leads teachers to focus on addressing students' weaknesses rather than nurturing their talents. The study findings confirmed that gifted students with learning difficulties face psychological challenges, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and social isolation, which increase their emotional stress. The study recommends providing tailored psychological support for this group. It proposed several strategies, including early identification, individualized education, and psychological counseling. It also suggested developing individualized education plans that focus on students' strengths, providing special classrooms or resource rooms, using adaptive teaching strategies, assistive technologies, and offering psychological counseling to meet their social and emotional needs. The recommendations emphasize the importance of improving academic and psychological care for gifted students with learning difficulties through comprehensive strategies, including individualized education, psychological support, and teacher training. These steps are essential to ensure the full development of their potential and improve their quality of life.
